About VSI khadi

What is VSI khadi?

VSI stands for vertical shaft impactor, the shaping stage after the main crushers. Its rotor throws stone at high speed into a chamber where rock hits rock, knocking off sharp corners. Screens then split the output into sizes. The result is khadi with a better shape – the rock itself is unchanged, so strength still comes from the parent stone.

How VSI works

VSI Khadi Supplier in Mumbai: What a VSI Does to the Stone

Shape is the one thing a VSI changes – and it's the one thing the standards limit.

Shaped by impact

A VSI rotor throws stone at high speed into a chamber where rock hits rock.

Corners knocked off

Repeated impacts break off sharp corners, so particles come out more cube-like and less flaky.

What "flaky" means

IS 2386: flaky if thinner than 0.6× its size; elongated if longer than 1.8× its size.

Within the limits

IS 383 caps flaky plus elongated at 40% for concrete; MoRTH caps it at 35% for WMM and WBM.

Same rock, better shape

VSI changes particle shape, not the rock. Strength still comes from the parent stone.

Screened into sizes

After shaping, screens split the output into sand and 6, 10, 20, 30 and 40 mm sizes.

Straight answer

What VSI changes – and what it doesn't

We describe VSI khadi by its shape only. Strength, mix and size still need the usual checks.

VSI changes

Particle shape: sharp corners knocked off.
The share of flaky and elongated pieces, which IS 383 and MoRTH limit.
Fines are sorted out afterwards by screening.

VSI doesn't change

The parent rock's strength and hardness (IS 383 tests the stone).
The need for the right size and grading for your job.
Your engineer's mix design.

Quality checks on site

Four checks when the load arrives

Quick checks anyone on site can do. Lab tests to IS 2386 are what the standards use.

Look for flaky pieces

Flaky means thinner than about 0.6× the piece's size; elongated means longer than about 1.8×. A handful shouldn't be mostly flat slivers.

Check the size

Pick up a handful. Most pieces should match the size you ordered, with no stray oversize chips or soil lumps.

Look for contamination

No soil, roots, coal bits, mica flakes or shells – IS 383 lists these as harmful.

Check the quantity

Measure the truck body (length × width × height in feet ÷ 100 = brass) or ask for the weighbridge slip on tonne orders.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions for VSI Khadi Supplier in Mumbai

What does VSI mean?

Vertical shaft impactor: a crusher whose spinning rotor throws stone against other stone, knocking off sharp corners. It's the shaping stage after the main crushers.

Is VSI khadi stronger than normal khadi?

Its shape is better; the rock isn't different. Strength comes from the parent stone, which IS 383 checks with crushing, impact and abrasion tests. VSI mainly reduces flaky and elongated pieces.

Which sizes of VSI khadi do you supply?

All our khadi is VSI-crushed: 6mm grit, 10mm (metal 1), 20mm (metal 2), 30mm and 40mm. We also supply VSI sand, which costs a little more than normal crushed sand.

Is VSI khadi the same as cubical aggregate?

Yes, that's the same idea: "cubical" describes the shape a VSI gives – fewer flat, flaky pieces. It isn't a separate grade in IS 383.

What is the minimum order?

6 brass (or 25 tonnes) per delivery. Call or WhatsApp with your quantity and site location and we confirm the delivered rate.

Do you deliver today, or at night?

We work 24/7 and same-day delivery is available across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Panvel. Mumbai deliveries follow the city's heavy-vehicle timing windows, so confirm your slot when you call. Every load comes with a GST invoice.
